Bike For Change

Learn to Travel. Travel to Learn

This program invites people from all walks of life to join forces and travel together to explore the causes and consequences of Climate Change, while collecting and sharing information and stories about its effects on people and life on Earth.

You will join a team of climate enthusiasts just like yourself and bike through Central America to get closer to the environment, communities and the people. During the travel, you will exchange experiences and information, connect communities and create channels of reliable information.

The Program Structure

Introductory Period

You will start with an introductory period where you will get a personalized fundraising training that will teach you all the tricks of running a successful campaign to raise the funds for a good cause. You will design your fundraising plan and implement it before coming to campus. All funds are to support our One World One Chance project. During this period we will also make material available for you to start learning about climate change, Central America and biking!

Period One – 3 months in USA

You will come to campus, meet your teammates and team leader, and join our communal life. Your training begins with biking and conducting investigations to learn more about climate change and what people know about it.
Your team will contact different groups and communities to connect with them and find your partner for the rest of the program. You will decide the route of your travels and start the preparations.

Period Two – 4 months biking to Central America

You and your teammates will be a part of the One World One Chance Project as you set off to live on the road while biking across the United States or Mexico to make it to Central America. During your journey, you will have time to study more about the environment, people’s struggles around the region, and solutions.
You will gather all your findings to become a source of reliable information. You will record interviews, capture landscapes, write journals, live-stream events, and more.

Period Three – 2 months back in USA

The next two months are for you and your teammates to conclude and present your findings  to your partners and other like-minded communities. You will set off to reach many people with your material and information digitally and in person. You and your team will host an event on campus as the final stage of your program.

Introducing the One World One Chance Project!

One World Center is launching a research project to address climate change. We have named it One World One Chance to emphasize that we have only one opportunity to take action. The name also calls for unity, promoting that only by coming together as one will we overcome the challenges of the present reality. The project aims to research the causes and consequences of climate change, publish all findings and build strong connections to support collaboration across the globe. The project will operate through our Bike for Change program, which invites groups of climate enthusiast to bike together to Central America to conduct research and connect with people, communities and organizations.
