We work in Chokwe, located in the Gaza province of Mozambique. This place has the highest rate of HIV and AIDS in all Mozambique, with 20% of the people living with the disease. We could write a whole page about this shocking information - like 42% of the people living in Gaza having HIV/AIDS, or that around 96,000 people die each year because of AIDS. But this document is not to tell sad or shocking statistics. On the contrary it is to explain how we work with this huge problem.
Total Control of Epidemic (TCE) is a project of Humana People to People dedicated to combatting HIV and AIDS in a different and unique way. People in TCE believe that the people are the only ones that can free themselves of the epidemic. This is proven with the phrase that leads us “So as perssoas por si, podem libertar do SIDA - a epidemia” - “Only the people can liberate themselves from AIDS – the epidemic”.
